Prank Call Concerns Powell PD

A prank call has caused concern for the Powell Police Department.
On Wednesday evening at about quarter to ten, the Powell Police Dispatch Center received a telephone report that two individuals had entered the Super 8 Motel and shot someone in the back of the head. However, when officers entered the building, they found no sign of violence. According to Police Chief Roy Eckert, as officers approached the clerk, the phone rang, and the caller requested to speak with the officers. The caller then informed them that there was no shooting, and that he was just testing their response time.
Eckert says that the real danger in a call like this is the possibility that an innocent victim could be injured or killed by law enforcement responding to what they believe to be a violent situation.

Eckert said that there are different types of investigative means that can be implemented by law enforcement to find the person who made the prank call. He says that at the minimum, the perpetrator could be charged with making terroristic threats, which is a felony in the state of Wyoming.
