Powell Hostage Situation- Gunman Identified

According to the Powell Tribune freinds have identified the dead suspect as 31 yoa Nick Unger

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:

On 02/09/12 at approximately 3:12 AM Powell Police responded to a 911 report of shots fired at the Park Motel in Powell, WY. Officers responded and learned of a situation involving a barricaded gunman with hostages, this information was received from the gunman. Assistance was requested from the Park County Sheriff’s Office, the Cody Police Department and Wyoming DCI. Between 3:13 AM and 7:24 AM the suspect fired additional rounds into the parking lot and surrounding area. At approximately 7:25AM the suspect exchanged gunfire with officers.  The suspect was wounded and transported to the Powell Hospital. The suspect was later pronounced deceased at the Hospital. No Officers or the hostage were injured in the exchange. The information provided in this press release is preliminary as the investigation is on-going. The investigation into the incident will be conducted by Wyoming DCI and the involved Officer will be placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. 
UPDATE:
A man has died after being shot by Powell police on Thursday morning at the Park Motel. The man, according to police, had reportedly held more than one person hostage in a room for several hours and fired several rounds. The 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at Powell Valley Hospital this morning, said Park County Coroner Tim Power.

Details are still sketchy however this is what we do know.

Sometime around 4am the Powell Police Department received a report of shots fired in the Park Motel. When officers arrived it is reported they discovered a man with a gun who reportedly had hostages in a motel room.

Five people left the rrom and were taken to the Americas Best Value Inn for questioning by authorities. One person remained in the room, possibly the suspects girl friend.

Initial reports indicate that three shots were fired with the last coming from a Powell Police Officer.

One man, reportedly the suspect was taken to Powell Valley Hospital.

His condition is unknown.
