WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo) voted against legislation to extend the payroll tax holiday, which passed the House by a vote of 293 to 132. The tax holiday is completely unfunded and expected to add over $100 billion to the federal deficit in 2012 alone. The Congressman had the following to say about her decision:
 
“The reason I voted against the payroll tax holiday is that in order to extend the payroll tax holiday for one year, it will cost over $100 billion.
 
“Extending the payroll tax holiday means taking $100 billion out of the Treasury.  There is only one place to get that money and that’s to borrow it from China, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the people of the United States.  I think that’s wrong so I voted against the bill.”
