Thousands of people in northwest Wyoming were without communications beginning early Monday when a fiber optic line was damaged. According to a press release decimated by by the park county sheriffs office Century link announced Monday afternoon that one mile of fiber optic line was damaged and needed repaired.
The blackout crippled some law enforcement dispatch centers with Powell emergency lines knocked out completely, those calls were rerouted to the park county dispatch center that had one line available to handle all calls for the Cody Police Department, West Park Ambulance, as well as the Cody, Clark, Meeteetse and Powell Fire Departments.
I spoke with a Century Link representative late last night who said the outage was caused by a third party and that the line had been cut. However the representative refused to say where the line had been cut how the line had been cut or who was responsible, when asked if it was a common occurrence the representative said that outages are common to the United States however refused to comment further.
