Event Celebrates Heart Mountain

Of the many meanings that Heart Mountain has for locals, one of the most culturally significant is that of the Crow Tribe.
Tomorrow evening, an event that will celebrate the Native culture’s relationship with Heart Mountain will be held at Big Quiet Camping in Powell. For a $20 donation, guests will be treated to a chili dinner, a native dance presentation, and panel discussion on what Dr. Mary Keller calls “the art of returning.”
Keller explains that the title of the event, Return to Foretop’s Father, pays homage to a Crow legend about a great tribal leader who went to Heart Mountain for guidance, and the mountain became like a father to him.

Additionally, a hike on Friday the 15th will feature a trek to the top of the Heart Mountain Trail, and a pipe ceremony led by Grant Bull Tail.
Tickets for the chili dinner can be found on an Eventbrite page titled the “8th Annual Return to Foretop’s Father.” However, the dancing and panel discussion are free and open to the public, as is the hike on Friday.
