Fall Fish Rescue Needs Volunteers

The East Yellowstone Chapter of Trout Unlimited is looking for volunteers to help with the annual fall fish rescue.
For over 20 years, the Trout Unlimited group has gathered local volunteers every fall in an effort to save fish that have been trapped in area irrigation canals. When the canals are shut down at the end of the season and the water levels decrease, the fish are unable to make it back into the streams and rivers, and they die.
Leaders say the activities last about two weeks and volunteers are needed for as many days as possible, adding that they are planning to have students from area schools helping on some days. They are estimating that the rescue will start around October 21st, but that timeline is dependent on water levels in the canals. The group will meet each day at 8:00 am at Rocky Mountains Discount Sports parking lot, and should finish by 3:00 pm. Lunch will be provided.
Anyone interested in assisting with this effort can call Bob Capron at 307-250-6719 or Dave Sweet at 307-899-9959 to find out the schedule.
